VICE PRESIDENT

Nancy Garcia
My name is Nancy Garcia and I'm interested in running for office either for the secretary position or the vice president position. I am currently a second semester junior. I am from San Diego where I got my AA in social sciences with an emphasis in Psychology. I was apart of the Psi Beta as well as the honors society at Mesa College in San Diego. Certain hobbies of mine include dance which is my true passion next to psychology, hiking, exercise of any sort and watching documentaries. The field that I am most interested in is biopsychology. My future endeavors include acquiring my PhD in clinical neuropsychology. Then I would like to do research focusing on individuals who suffer from neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's or schizophrenia. I would also like to one day have my own private practice serving low Socio Economic Status areas. Community education on mental illness to decrease stigmas are also part of my future plans. I know that I am the best candidate for either of these positions because I am very reliable, organized and I love to be engaged with my community. I always take initiative and I will finish the job no matter what it takes for it to get done. I know this will be a great opportunity for me to learn and contribute to how we can influence the psychology students to get more psyched about Psi Chi. Thank you for your time.

Joseph Pham
Hey all, I’m Joseph Pham! Presently I am in the running for the position of Vice President of Psi Chi for the upcoming academic year of 2015-2016! I’m currently a fourth-year undergraduate pursuing the path of Industrial/Organizational Psychology & Business Administration. It is very much so my passion and I’d like to entirely dedicate the last year of my five-year journey here at SFSU towards making Psychology more accessible to students. This incredibly intricate, admirable field inspired me to pursue higher education in the first place, and without it I would probably not be here today. I believe my vision for this organization is exactly what it needs in order to thrive and grow in the right direction. I am truly of the opinion that the leadership, communication, and management skills I have developed in the past years would see the most use in an organization that so closely represents who I am as a person. I’d say my ultimate goal is to empower the San Francisco State University chapter of Psi Chi by actively cultivating the unique aspects of the organization and transforming it into something that transcends its mission statement.

As of the current moment, the more notable pieces of leadership experience I possess includes being a program leader at the Milpitas division of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 164. Most notably I obtained the position of Activity Director’s Assistant of Connecting Dreams, a charity organization. As a result of our contributions, we as an organization received the California Legislature Assembly’s Certificate of Recognition in 2011 for the fundraising work we coordinated. With that aforementioned experience under my belt, I have further honed my abilities to schedule, organize, and run meetings, as well as oversee major events efficiently under significant logistical constraints. I consider myself to be highly adept at delegating duties and facilitating group work and the experience I have acquired has only served to further improve these skills. Taking all of the above into consideration, I have also been financially independent since entering college and have maintained a 3.98 major grade point average in the meantime. You can certainly trust me with this responsibility as it is something I am incredibly passionate about and it is built into my core to improve such things to the best of my ability. I hope to see you all around. Cheers!

Anar Salayev
My name is Anar Salayev, and I am interested in either the Vice President or Public Relations position. I am currently a senior at San Francisco State, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Anthropology and Computer Science. I am a research assistant in Dr. Geisler's lab (looking at the neural correlates of anxiety and depression) as well as Dr. Morsella's lab (looking at the neural signatures of decision making). I will be staying two more semesters in order to do my honor's thesis with Dr. Geisler and Dr. Morsella as my advisors. As of now, I am planning to attend a PhD track program in Neuroscience or Cognitive neural psychology with a specific interest in decision making and conscious cognitive processes. I want to go into research and eventually academia. Another post-undergraduate option I am considering is joining the military, either Army or Air Force. In my spare time, I work as an English tutor at Best of Class education, play guitar, read, and hang out with the homies. I hope to help SFSU's Psy Chi chapter become more resourceful for its current and potential members as well as to work towards developing a network that is more communal than it is now.

SECRETARY

Picture
Hannah Lee
Hello everyone! My name is Hannah Lee and I want to be the 2015-2016 SFSU Psi Chi Secretary. Here are a few facts about me: I LOVEdogs (I have a Siberian Husky and a German Shepherd), I enjoy hiking and sightseeing, I’m a chocolate junkie, and my favorite music genres are alternative rock, rap and One Direction. I am interested in developmental psychology. Specifically, I am interested in the older population, 65+ years of age. I plan on continuing school to help elders with depression and mental diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Another aspect of aging that I am interested in is making cities accessible to people of all ages. A main reason why elders may get depression is because they remain isolated in their homes. Also, we’re all going to get older so why not invest in our own futures? J I am a perfect candidate for the position of secretary because I love to be organized! I take organizing pretty seriously... Sometimes my friends ask me to organize their desks and school papers. I can also type at an above average speed (approximately 75 wpm). Writing things down, making lists and taking notes is a hobby of mine. School/ office supply shopping is probably one of my favorite types of shopping. You can never have enough nice pens!

Cristina Colindres
My name is Cristina Colindres and I am interested in running for Public Relations or Secretary as a part of the Psi Chi Honors Society. I believe that I will be a great fit for either position based on my experience, knowledge, professionalism, and creativity.

Currently, I am serving multiple roles within a non-profit softball organization called Lady Hustle based out of Livermore, CA. Not only am I the assistant coach to the 16Gold team, but I also am the team’s manager. Being the team manager has taught me important qualities that would make me a great candidate for either Public Relations or Secretary. I believe that the experience and knowledge that I have obtained thus far can help build our society through effective communication and community involvement. I am constantly sending emails for hotel reservations, tournament updates, practices, and much more. All are done carefully and in a professional manner.

As a former collegiate softball athlete myself, I have also learned the importance of teamwork, time management, organization, and most importantly, communication. When it comes to tasks or events I am very organized and enjoy being creative in the process. It would be an honor to work alongside the current and new members of the Society and serve as an officer to help achieve the goals in which we desire. I hope that I am taken in consideration of your voting process.
