Psi Chi is an on-campus organization that strives to provide resources, information, and involvement opportunities to SFSU students. We have an exciting year planned and we hope YOU participate! Here is how you can apply to join Psi Chi and stay informed:

Undergraduate Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled as a psychology major at SFSU
  • Must have established a GPA (an overall GPA and psychology GPA of at least a 3.0)
  • Must be at least a second-semester sophomore
  • Must have completed at least 12  semester units of psychology upper division courses

Graduate Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled as a psychology graduate student at SFSU
  • Must have established a SFSU GPA
  • Must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate courses, including psychology courses

PLEASE NOTE: Undergraduate and graduate transfer students who wish to join must complete at least 12 units at SFSU and establish a SFSU GPA. Fall transfer students may officially apply in the Spring after fulfilling unit requirements, yet you are invited to start participating in Psi Chi right away.

If you're thinking about graduate school and have questions about the application process or what it takes be a strong candidate, then come join us for a Graduate school workshop. Dr. Gard has reviewed many applications for the past ten years and has agreed to come speak and answer your questions. Greetings Psychology Majors! 

Don't miss out on your last chance to join PSI CHI this semester. We will be hosting open enrollment over the next 2 weeks. 

The dates to submit applications are April 2nd-April 11th.

Please adhere to the following directions to ensure that your application is completed properly:
•    Go to sfsupsichi.org and select the apply tab
•    Complete online application and a hard copy application (These are two separate forms)
•    Print out and submit the hard copy application to EP 301 with unofficial transcripts and a check for $75 (only checks will be accepted and fee is non-refundable) 

Qualifications for membership:
•    be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program or a program psychological in nature
•    have completed at least 3 semesters or equivalent of full-time college coursework
•    have completed at least 12 semester credit hours or equivalent of psychology courses
•    have earned a cumulative GPA that is in the top 35% of their class (sophomore, junior, or senior) compared to their classmates across the entire university or the college that houses psychology (minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale)
•     have a minimum 3.0 GPA average for psychology courses

Hello All,

We are looking for a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations, and many other subcommittee positions.
We are looking for people who are:
  1. Motivated
  2. Willing to help build our organization
  3. Thrive working with a team
  4. Innovative
  5. (Leadership experience is preferred but not required)
How does this benefit you:
  1. Holding a position is fun and allows you to create a great network that includes psychology faculty and students.
  2. Develop leadership skills that will make you more employable after college

Good evening all,

Are you interested in becoming more involved with Psi Chi (International Honor Society in Psychology) and the Psychology department here on campus? Becoming a board member is a great way to build your leadership and networking skills, develop professional experience, as well as connect to your department and fellow peers, faculty, and staff!

We are now accepting inquiries for our 2017-18 election for the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations, Social Subcommittee Chairs, Fundraising Subcommittee Chairs, Community Service Subcommittee Chairs, and Publicity Subcommittee Chairs.


If you are interested in applying for any of these positions, please email sfpsichi@gmail.com with:

your name and school year
  • a 200 - 300 words short blurb about yourself (why you would like to become an officer, why you think you would be a good candidate for the position, and any other information you would like to include for members to help make their decision (i.e, previous leadership experience, involvement on campus, etc.))
  • your 1st and 2nd choice for the positions you're interested in.


You must be a Psi Chi member to run for any “Officer Position” whilst “Committee Positions” are open to all Psychology students.
Applications are due March 3, 2017. Please send us your inquiries by 11:59 PM.


We will be holding the elections via online qualtrics system from March 6th -17th , 2017. We will follow-up with a link for the voting process so please remember to check your emails.

Officer Positions
All Officers must attend bi-weekly officer meetings and all scheduled body meetings. Subcommittee Chairs do not need to attend officer meetings but must attend body meetings.

President (one year term):
As President of Psi Chi, one is responsible for acting as the faculty lesion and coordinating the efforts of all other officers by holding officer meetings often. One must also create and follow agendas for all meetings. The President is the main liaison between Psi Chi and the faculty and is responsible for introducing themselves to the faculty including the department chair at the beginning of their term. Also, the Psi Chi President, in collaboration with the other officers, will set goals for the organization to accomplish for the academic year. The President is also responsible for ensuring that each event and assigned tasks are completed. The President is in charge of sending and responding to Psi Chi email for general purposes. In addition to this, the President is also responsible for planning and hosting at least one event per quarter. The President will work with the Vice-President to plan the graduation reception for the senior psychology majors as well.

Vice-President (one year term):
As Vice-President, one must attend officer meetings, head one event per quarter (reserve room if needed, buy food within designated budget, make blurbs for flyers that must be made by Publicist), advertise all events in classes, help other officers come up with ideas and support them in carrying them out. The Vice-President must maintain and monitor the record of Core Members. The Vice-President also collaborates with the President on ideas, events, and tasks, helps put together Inductions with a budget and presents new members their certificates with the President, and also brings ideas and input to improving Psi Chi.

Treasurer (one year term):
As Treasurer, one must lead the inductees and keep track of the expenditures. All finances will be recorded by the Treasurer in an account of checks and balances. The Treasurer must prepare a statement for each Officer Meeting to always have an updated balance for the Psi Chi Account as well as the record of recent financial activity. The Treasurer is responsible for setting the due date for the applications, as well as verifying all prospective applicant information. Once the information is verified, it is the Treasurer’s duty to send in the payments, applications, and registration cards to the national office and to enter the new members electronically. Other responsibilities of the Treasurer include keeping track of the funds for Psi Chi, which entails collecting receipts for each purchase from other officers and reimbursing them when needed. It is important to always keep track of how much money is in the bank account as well. Lastly, the Treasurer must plan one event per quarter.

Secretary (one year term):
The Secretary must attend all officer meetings and keep detailed minutes of what is discussed, including but not limited to, the agenda and the outcomes of past, current, and future business of Psi Chi. The Secretary must type the minutes immediately after each officer meeting and email them to each officer. In addition, the Secretary must keep record of attendance and requirements of members. The Secretary will collect Officer and Subcommittee Member proposals and compile the ballot for Elections each Winter Quarter and send it to the Publicity Officer to make copies of the ballots. The Secretary must plan at least one event per quarter and help in planning the senior graduation reception for psychology majors.

Public Relations (one year term):
The Public Relations Officer is responsible for advertising Psi Chi events (socials, panels, community service events, quarterly body meetings, and colloquiums). This includes making, printing copies of, and posting creative and attention-grabbing fliers and handouts around the Social Sciences buildings and bus stops. The Public Relations Officer is also responsible for updating Psi Chi’s website and Facebook page with event dates, links, research opportunities, and relevant information as well as the Psi Chi board. The Public Relations Officer must also maintain an archive of Psi Chi events and elected officers.

Committee Positions:

Social Subcommittee Chairs (two positions, one year term)
As a Social Subcommittee Chair, it is one’s responsibility to collaborate with the other chair and subcommittee members in organizing at least one social event per quarter.

Fundraising Subcommittee Chairs (two positions, one year term)
As a Fundraising Subcommittee Chair, it is one’s responsibility to collaborate with the other chair and subcommittee members in organizing at least one fundraising event per quarter.

Community Service Subcommittee Chairs (two positions, one year term)
As a Community Service Subcommittee Chair, it is one’s responsibility to collaborate with the other chair and subcommittee members in organizing at least one community service event per quarter.

Publicity Subcommittee Chair (two positions, one year term)
As a Publicity Subcommittee Chair, it is one’s responsibility to aid the Public Relations officer in managing the website, Facebook group, and advertising (creating flyers, classroom announcements, posting flyers). One must also take photographs at Psi Chi events, gatherings, and meetings.
